Loging in after a while, I've noticed my page got 60.000 PVS! Wow, thanks everyone for your support and for your visits and kind words. It's great to have such good friends around, even when you seem to be inactive

I know it's being two months now since my last journal, sorry guys! I'm still here just very very busy. Many things happened meanwhile.

Say, I'm curently returning from a trip to Salzbourg, Austria - a very nice place....tons of amazing views. Do you want me to share some photos when I get back? They are not very professional....just plain amateur photos but the view is amazing....from the architecture to the wonderfull mountains and fortress.

As for my art...since some of you asked why I haven't uploaded a thing in a while....well....sorry again! It's just because I'm curently working for a nice company called King of Houston and I don't have much time for personal projects...but don't worry! As soon as I finish my first project for them I've got clearance to display here some of the works!

Heh, I know it's being a while since my last update/image, been really busy sorry...don't worry, there's a new piece coming up soon, made for an article/tutorial @ 3dtotal.com; I've worked a lot on this one and you'll be able to see a step by step make of-walkthrough

I won't spoil many details, I'll just let you know it's a tropical, sci-fi matte painting and, hopefully, an evolution in my art. This time i took my time to think of the composition, depth and very small details, and I am very happy with the result

There's also a collab with Robert Maschke coming up soon. Annnndddd...my website (finaly). I've decided to host it on godaddy.com , what do you think? Do you know even better webhosts?

Winners of Exotika 2!

Let me tell you from the begining it was very hard to pick the winners. And I'm not just saying that to make you feel better - I mean it! There've been some impressing images, many coming from the space art field, but in the end what mattered the most in the eyes of the judges was originality.

As I've told you in the begining, I've started this contest having an idea in mind - making people push the limits, unleash their imagination, make things that weren't done so many times before, bring back that creativity spark especially in Space Art which got a forgotten genre. I wanted them to make something they are proud of. Sure, many images are great, some of them even impressing but they lack what matters the most...personality, originality, attitude...your artistic essence!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this second edition of Exotika! We'll meet again in spring, when, hopefuly, I'll manage to hook in more sponsors!

And don't forget: be creative!

A Brighter New Year!

The holiday time is over and the new year came to our homes; It is up to us now wether we welcome it as a friend or cast it in our basement

We are now seriously walking the first steps towards the hall chamber called 21th century. And from there....all the rooms of the palace are open to us....we just have to find a torch to see the path.

In this regard, let me wish you my friends A Brighter New Year! As a symbol for more enlightnment, for more peace, for more love; As a symbol of faith and hope. As a symbol of guidance.

And always remember: In darkness you will only find darkness ;

But even then you are completely lost. Look inside yourself. There you will find the light and the power to cast away the shadows and lighten your path. And to do that you just have to believe.

Wishes

It's within tradition to write down your goals in the very first day of the new year (and at the end to summarize what have/haven't you done from that list

)

So what are your plans for 2007? Have you thought to any?

Artistically, I want 2007 to be an year of enlightnment.
I want my art to mature itself and to reach a professional level. And I want to start working for big clients.

I will concentrate myself from now on matte paitings, trying to learn all the secrets. That means you will mostly see environments from me this year, but I'll occasionaly do some concept art and space art too. And I also want to learn some 3D and then some compositing.

(Hope the list doesn't sound too cocky...it's just a wish list

)

Community wise I want this year to be far better than the last one. I want to meet more artists, to make many many more friends, to talk about art and share ideas

As for me...

I am working on the last image of this year, called the Angel Mountain - a seasonal and deeply dramatic&emotional scene; A gift which I hope to submit before Christmas. After that, I will go enjoy myself the magic of the end of the year and hopefuly come back fresh and recharched as I have big plans for 2007 hoping it to be even better than 2006, artwise.

Upcoming Project...

I've been working hard lately on finding a new matte painting technique and style. A faster one. One that might allow one to create outstanding effects in very little time; Made this study on a cinematic scene, an image that I love a lot now, called The Return to Evergreen...some people who already seen it said it's a real hit... But those are just a couple of opinions. I will let this decision to you, when I'll submit it to the gallery. Im also hoping that I'll be able to share this technique with you, sometime. It's very complex but also very rewarding...Writing an article about it will take time.

Exotika, Part II

Say what?

~Suirebit and $zilla774 are very happy to bring you the second edition of Exotika, the Digital Scenery Contest.
Continuing the succes of the first competition while bringing the challenge to a new level, Exotika 2 features ice as it's main theme and encourages all the lanscapers and spacescapers to create cold, exotic worlds in order to win the great prizes;
However, this time we'll add some spice in the competition...

The images should be in wallpaper format.

Can you be "cool"?

I must say from the begining that while the theme of this contest is cold exotism, the main judging criteria will be originality so don't expect throwing a mountain in there and win. We want to see you trying to achieve great, dramatic scenes, we want you to use this competition only as a motivation to bring your ideas and style to a new level, to create breathtaking, original concepts, to show everyone what you are really capable of!

Depending on your response, the future editions may get big enough to bring in important sponsors

Rules

1) The images you'll submit should be original concepts, exotic (in a cold way) and in wallpaper format;

Here are the valid sizes:

- Normal PC / Mac

    * 640x480 | 800x600
    * 1024x768 | 1152x864
    * 1280x960 | 1280x1024
    * 1400x1050 | 1600x1200
    * 2048x1536

- Dual Display / Widescreen

3) The submitted image must be NEW, and submitted after this competition has been announced.

4) This is a Digital Scenery competition, hence no other type of art is allowed! Moreover, the images should be in wallpaper format (see 1) )

5) The images must be submitted before December 31th which is the deadline of this contest.

2 years of DeviantArt and 50k PVS Milestone

DeviantArt - The Heaven and Hell....

At times, thinking at this moment, I wanted to be able say something original or at least interesting. Now, I will only let my heart speak for there's no other who knows the best my tale...

The story begins some two years ago...two years...two years? My god, I thought a century past! For so many things happened during this time that it will take a full novel to write about them...

You see, On December 1st 2004 I walked in here without knowing a thing about art. Nada. Zero. And since then I've been wondering around the realm of digital art, trying many genres until finding one that fit me...I probably own everything to DA....without it there would've been no Suirebit now...

Starting from scratch and up until now, everything happened in two years, two intense years filled with love, anger, excitement, frustration, passion, lust, and above all, friendship...for in the end it is you , my friends, the ones whom I should thank for all your support, for all your kind words, for all your comments, for everything that kept me moving forward...and for helping me discover this hidden talent....

DeviantArt summs it up in a cold way while 1,267 people watch him. but I think that the true translation of this sentence is "Suirebit was blessed with many, many great friends, to whom he wants now to deeply thank for always being next to him, supporting his art and helping him to improve and achieve his goals"

It so happens that at the same time I make two years of DA I am about to hit 50k PVS....weird coincidence

With this ocassion I am calling for a small competition - I am offering a one month sub to the one who illustrates the best the concept of friendship in an image. News, Fresh News

Whoah, so it's being one month without me writing any journal...guess I was so busy that I completely forgot about it

A lot of things happened meanwhile let's see if I manage not to forget any:

I think it's ok to spoil the surprise a little and let you know there's a second edition of Exotika coming soon! This time, the partner in crime is $zilla774 and the contest will be taken over to the wallpaper genre. As for the theme....you probably already guessed it

Won't spoil any more details, but do stand by for a news article next week

(You can however ask about it here, in this journal...will try to answer if it's possible.)

A couple of weeks ago I've entered the CGSociety EON Challenge! Any of you is there too? I find it very interesting and I'm looking forward to share ideas with you! (altough, admitedly, the book itself is quite confusing and doesn't offer much detail upon the structures geometry itself)! I'm at the illustration section but can't decide upon a scene just yet

I keep receiving the following Question: " May I use your art for my blog/avatar/header/[...] ?"

My Answer is: Yes, as long as:
- it's a non-commercial project
- you credit me and
- place a link towards the original

So what's new?

Well, first things first, GOTHIC 3 is coming out soon!!!!

If you are a fan yourself, you know what I'm talking about

I really hope it won't dissapoint.

Heh, now onto more serious news:

Let's see...hmmm....there's this bad & good news couple; Bad news is that Uni started and the time table is quite loaded so there's little free time left for me...you could still chit-chat with me however on msn or yahoo...but after 18 gmt...and of course, in the weekends (for those who don't have my ID-s and wanna talk to me, just send me a note and I'll give them to you

) Good news is that, despite this, I am decided to finally start working on a professional portofolio of environmental matte paintings in order to begin looking for jobs&work in the field

During the past weeks I've been studying a lot of theories and workshops and I hope I can jump to the next level

If I'll get the chance to submit them on DA too, I'll submit them with Environment: [....] Title .

Unbelievable!

Not again....

Sorry for writing so many journal entries lately, I just feel the need to scream out ....another ripper was found and this time is a mobile company who made my art availble for payed download!! Here: [link]
They make big money out of my Phoenix and out of other fractal artist such as Aeires or creativ82.....I'm telling you I can't stand this anylonger...I will go back and watermark each and every image from my gallery , like it or not! Sorry but I just have to protect my art....

If such a company did this I can only image howm many guys are curently making money out of my stuff without having my permissions. And please, if you spot more, let me know! Turning down one such site it's like spitting in an ocean, I know, but at least there will be one less thief around dammit!

Say what?

For those of you who haven't noticed yet, DeviantArt made CSS available for the rest of us too; Ya' thats' right, now we can have pretteh fancy journals just like staff members had before

Now this feature is probably the first good reason for one to buy a sub. Why? Not only does it replace the obsolete ID, but through this new feature one can show his style and attitude as he would through his own website

It's attitude at the 2nd power; And the journal look will have the first impact upon your readers. Sounds like a commercial? No, rest assured, they don't pay me to advertise it.

New toy

If you still wonder what CSS means or don't know where to start, there are plenty templates around this website. There's even a cool 'wizard' of some sort here: [link]

However, this covers only basic features. if you want snizzy div tags, fancy windows or cool effects you gotta read some more about css and open up your good old photoshop. Or you could note me...if you really can't manage yourself

I can help you make your journal look pretteh (I already have quite a pack of requests), and I only ask for credits in return

However, I'm pressed by time at this moment so it may take a while...

In another order of ideas

World Creators is coming back again! I took a break since dav5 was launched, to wait for the important bug fixes. Now that the pest is removed, the 8th Edition is coming up! No interview this time, but plenty of features, including the ones promised to Exotika Contest!

Last but not least

Thank you for your support on A Guardian Angel; I'm glad you guys like it as much as Andy did!

Bad News is that Uni starts next week so I won't have time to do as many artworks as I did in the summer. However, be prepared for a couple of tutorials, many of them requested on special topics such as Texture Overlays, Clouds painting and so on!

Unbelievable

GAH! What's wrong with these guys????

Take a look here: [link] will see there at least two of my works, together with some of other artists around DA (Like Bpaupa or Samodj)...After I contacted the bugger and told him to remove the pieces, he simply denied acces there...I wonder what he'll do next

I don't understand what on Earth is in their minds....
He probably is so proud of himself for being able to crop an image. Bravo, he definitely has strong graphical skills *ironic*

I really start to think what to do in order to prevent such abuses...DA should make an option that allows us to block image download....

Bah, kindof angry right now so I'm not in the mood of writing too much of the important stuff...I'll give you an update later. Anyway, if you find more rippers, let me know *sigh*

The Seven Great Wonders

Subject: New project

What's this all about? I'm planning a set of art, done as a personal project (not comissioned) that will feature Seven Great (imaginary) Wonders of our known galaxy; These will be presented to you in a quite inovative way, one that you are not used to see on DeviantArt or any other place at all - each wonder will come as a Wallpaper Pack that will contain different sized versions of the image, a backstory, science facts, tutorials (if possible) and other goodies The packs will be submited over this semester (real time) so stay tooned! At the end you will be able to vote your favorite wonder and participate in a quiz contest!
The first one in line is "Heaven and Hell" which will be submited during the next week

Concerns, right

Lately I've been getting more and more reports of rippers who distribute or sell my art on several obscure sites and not only (one of them even had the guts to sell my art on e-bay ); Unfortunately, everytime I get such a report it's too late, and the jerk already made some money out of my work;

This is a serious threat that needs to be dealed with as soon as possible! That's why I'm asking you, my watchers, the ones who know my stuff better than anyone, to help me out! How? Everytime you see one of my images used without proper and full credits send me a note or an e-mail asap!

Also, since >>> [link] <<<, I will be using a custom signature&sign (look for it in the left, bottom part of the image). Wherever you see that stamp, you'll know the image is mine. In addition to this I will also add invisible watermarks and other protection means. Hope this will put an end to those hyenas once and for all!

Last but not least, speaking about new stuff, a nice celestial image is coming up soon I haven't done some heavy space art in a long time and I hope this will be a nice addition for those who watch me for my space stuff. After that, a comission done for Andy Slade will follow And after that some more matte painting. And after that....university starts again
